My name is Justin Glawe and I’m a journalist in the South. I’ve also been a journalist in the Midwest, in Texas, and in lots of other places for hundreds of stories large and small in the last 12 years since I started as a reporter at my hometown paper in Peoria, Illinois. My first book will be released in the spring of 2025 by the University of Georgia Press. It’s called If I am Coming to Your Town, Something Terrible Has Happened and details the violence, unrest and madness I’ve covered across the country over much of the last two decades.

American Doom is a ground-up examination of American life, from the crime scene to the White House. My goal here is to write with clarity about the immediacy of this troubling and strange historical moment. If you are here, it’s because you’re concerned not just with the direction of the country but also recognize the absurd reality in which we live — a reality in which many people around them are saying the sky is green when it is clearly not
